WILL LEMON + CITIZENS OF HUMANITY
CITIZENS OF HUMANITY and Will Lemon have joined forces to create unique hand washed and dyed screen painted t shirts on “lived-in” ultra soft 100% cotton knit fabric. This offering launches the CITIZENS OF HUMANITY artist collaboration series for Spring 2010.
The initial attraction was to Will Lemon’s unique body painting designs. The goal was to translate these designs into t-shirts finished in the denim wash processes that Jerome Dahan and Adriano Goldschmied have perfected at CITIZENS OF HUMANITY.
Will Lemon has been screen printing for over 10 years. He explains how it started for him, “When I first started screen printing I was just experimenting and trying to “screen-paint” instead of “screen-print”. By using this screen painting technique, the prints create a hand crafted color-blending factor, and the shirts take on a one of a kind sensibility as a result.” When asked to elaborate, Will added, “it was about working from a visionary place when I first started to think about the prints. I envisioned an outdoor scene and I first saw a snake sunbathing in a field of tall, verdant grass. I also imagined a small stream with a slight waterfall nearby, and these first three images that were there in my mind became the metaphors for the prints that eventually ended up on the t-shirts. To the eye they might appear unrelated, but I think to the mind they make perfect sense together. “
For Spring 2010, Will began with a spring signature — the thunderstorm. The series of the shirts are based on the cycle of nature. The limited edition t-shirts will be released in 2 groups of three designs each. The first will be in stores in January, 2010 and the second series will be available in stores beginning in March, 2010.
